Verizon Fios Adds Remote DVR Streaming

Verizon has announced that a new update to the Fios mobile app will allow customers with both Fios Quantum TV and Fios internet service to stream “nearly all” of their DVR-recorded shows from anywhere they have an internet connection. This means that they no longer need to be at home to stream their DVR, they can do so remotely, provided that they have an internet connection. These customers will also be able to watch every live TV channel in their plan through the app for the first time, albeit for this feature they need to be using their mobile devices at home.

These features entered testing last month and now they are available in all markets starting today. The updated Fios mobile app is available for download right now from the App Store and Google Play store to stream DVR shows remotely.

The app can be used to stream every subscribed channel while at home, or stream nearly all of the recorded shows remotely. It even allows access to thousands of On-Demand titles, lets users manage their DVR recordings from wherever they might be, use the mobile device as a Fios TV remote and even set up parental controls for the little ones.

One must take into account the “nearly all” condition here, Verizon hasn’t pointed out what’s not allowed to be streamed remotely even if it’s saved to the DVR, though if one were to guess it may or may not have something to do with NFL games.
