A couple of months back BlackBerry released its first Android handset, customers in the United States can either purchase the handset unlocked and off contract straight from the company, or from AT&T which has exclusivity over this handset until January 20th. Other carriers will be able to offer this smartphone to their customers after the aforementioned date, and Verizon is going to be one of them, as its version of the BlackBerry Priv has now made the customary FCC stop.
Verizon confirmed back in November that it would eventually offer the handset to its customers however it couldn’t do that before January 20th because that’s when AT&T’s exclusivity ends.
The Priv is now one step closer to its launch on the nation’s largest mobile carrier. The customary FCC stop is usually an indicator of an impending launch so perhaps we might see Big Red make an announcement soon after January 20th.
BlackBerry will certainly not mind having its latest handset on the country’s largest mobile network considering the fact that it only sold 700,000 units of its first Android smartphone in Q3, sales were much lower than expected.
Verizon has not yet confirmed how much the BlackBerry Priv cost, and with company CEO John Chen hinting that the Priv may receive a price cut early next year, perhaps we might see the handset launch on Verizon with a new price tag.
