According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it seems that the DHS are working on a plan to scrutinize the social media posts of people applying for visas to enter the US. Note that this has not been confirmed but rather this is according to someone “familiar with the matter”, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
The motive behind this alleged plan follows the tragic shooting rampage in San Bernardino, California where investigators are currently looking on the social media pages of the two shooters for any clue that they might have hinted at the intentions to carry out their deadly plan that left 14 dead and many injured.
It is not clear whether this method of screening will be implemented or how it will be implemented. Apparently government officials are keeping the details of the program close their chest as they do not want to reveal the process they use that could identify potential threats.
