The report claims that Toshiba and Fujitsu are both considering spinning off their PC divisions, and that they will be joining forces with Vaio. What this means is that at the end of the day if the rumor proves true, Vaio will be the only remaining brand out of the three with the other two companies and their PC divisions falling under the Vaio banner.
This isn’t a bad idea because if this deal pans out, it seems that the resulting control of the Japanese PC market would be at 30%, making Vaio the biggest player on the market ahead of the likes of NEC Lenovo. However when they are separate it is an entirely different story which is why like we said, this merger would make sense.
Are the rumors true? According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Vaio denied the claims and stated that it was complete speculation. While this sounds like it could have rubbished the report entirely, Fujitsu on the other hand offered up a different story and claimed that they are still considering various options and has not decided on anything yet. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys make of this potential (alleged) merger?
