While Apple might have the Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro, Microsoft has the Surface Pen which they have introduced to their Surface series of tablets a while ago. Unlike the Apple Pencil which is rather straightforward in design and use, the Surface Pen comes with additional features like a 3-way button on the top.
However those buttons weren’t exactly customizable because back then, they could only be customized to open apps like OneNote desktop or OneNote Windows 8-style apps. The good news is that Microsoft has decided to expand its customizability by allowing users to open up any app that they want with the button.
As you can see in the screenshot above, users can choose to launch different apps and functionalities with the button’s 3-way action. For example for single-click, users have the option of OneNote (default), Disabled, Launch a store app, Launch a desktop app. For double-click they have Screenshot (default), Disabled, Launch a store app, Launch a desktop app. For press and hold they have Cortana (default), Disabled, Launch a store app, Launch a desktop app.
These customizations will only be available if you have updated the Surface app to version 10.0.342 so if you haven’t, then you should go ahead and do that now if you’d like access to these new customization options.
