It’s safe to say that Star Wars fans had been waiting for last week since many, many years. It has been quite a while since the last movie in this franchise was released and many were delighted to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally hit the big screen. Their enthusiasm for the new movie reflects in the box office take, the new Star Wars film has ranked in the biggest opening weekend ever in the United States and Canada.
Numbers from Box Office Mojo indicated that Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought in $238 million for the studio in the United States and Canada alone making it the biggest opening weekend ever for a film.
It broke the record of Jurassic World, a new iteration to yet another popular title, which set a similar record earlier this year in June by bringing in $208 million for the studio during the first weekend.
Across the globe Star Wars: The Force Awakened pulled in about $517 million, missing out slightly on overtaking the international weekend opening record set earlier this year by Jurassic World at $525.5 million. These figures do not represent box office sales in China because the movie doesn’t open there until January 9th.
There is merely just the start for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, analysts expect that this movie is going to bring in more than $2 billion in worldwide sales, clearly the Force is strong with this one.
