Given Disney’s habit of finding a way to tie in Star Wars with just about everything one would think that there might be something planned for Star Wars Battlefront, perhaps a DLC that ties in with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The new Star Wars movie has been making waves at the box office and breaking records, but it won’t have much impact on the Star Wars Battlefront experience.
EA has no doubt been bombarded with queries about future DLC for this title and whether or not new downloadable content will be based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It responded to a similar query on Twitter and confirmed that that’s not the case.
It confirmed over Twitter that “for this release” of Star Wars Battlefront the team is focusing on the original trilogy, Episodes IV to VI, and not Episode VII which is the new one. The Battle of Jakku DLC is really as close as it gets to TFA in this release.
The Battle of Jakku is fought in a desert that has been introduced in The Force Awakens, however the story is actually an epilogue to Return of the Jedi, players will notice that Stormtroopers have the same armor as the original trilogy. Battle of Jakku DLC came out on December 8th and is available for free to anyone who has Battlefront.
It’s interesting to note that EA mentioned “this release” when confirming that there’s no proper TFA tie in with Battlefront, but with four premium DLCs in the pipeline for next year, it’s safe to say that a new Star Wars title won’t be released in the near future.
