Sony Explains Why PS2 Games On The PS4 Are So Expensive

sony ps4It wasn’t too long ago that Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 would be able to play PS2 games. No doubt this is good news for gamers looking to relive some classic games on their newer consoles, and also a good way for new gamers to be introduced to some older titles that they would otherwise never have been able to play.

The bad news is that the PS2 games listed did not come cheap. They ranged from $9.99 to $14.99 which is admittedly rather pricey for games that old. However during a recent podcast, SCE’s President Shuhei Yoshida came forward with an explanation in which he revealed why Sony priced the games the way they did.

According to Yoshida, “We are also able to add Trophies; some people really care about Trophies. So we can provide that. And it takes some time for our staff and QA and licensing and everything to bring back these games. So it takes us time and cost. So we felt that we should charge.”

Are those changes worth the price? We suppose if you think it’s a rip-off, you don’t have to buy it, but then again Sony will have to gauge the demand for the games. If there isn’t much demand, they could lower the price to make it more accessible, but for now Sony seems to think that it is justified – do you guys agree?
