Samsung’s VP Chan-Woo Park shared, “As a pioneer in the mobile VR industry, Samsung has continually worked to provide our users with a fully immersive mobile experience in the evolving world of virtual reality. As the demand for 360-degree, immersive video content rapidly rises – Samsung Internet for Gear VR further enriches the VR content ecosystem for our consumers, setting an industry standard for the VR viewing experience.”
Right now, the Gear VR web browser beta can be picked up from the Oculus Store, where it will boast of voice command support alongside an on-screen keyboard. It will also support 360-degree and 3D video streaming capability in addition to playback of just about any HTML5 video.
There is also a “Gaze Mode” for the browser which will let you pick out menus by looking at them – talk about no frills! This means there is no need to go through the tapping of the touchpad or controller, and bookmarks can be imported or exported as well. Hopefully you won’t look at a hyperlink by accident while using the Samsung Gear VR to watch football in Portugal. [Press Release]
