Samsung Launches GAIA, Makes Their Smart TVs Harder To Hack

In recent times when connected objects are starting to become more ubiquitous, some security analysts have criticized such products not so much for their functionality, but for their security because as it stands, there is no standard security protocol to prevent such devices from being hijacked or hacked.

However the good news for Samsung smart TV owners is that it looks like your Tizen-powered devices will now be more secure, thanks to a new security feature they are calling GAIA. According to Samsung, GAIA will be a three-layer security protocol that they will be applying to their 2016 lineup of Tizen-based smart TVs.

The three layers will first comprise of Secure Zone that creates a secure space and safeguards personal information like credit card information and passwords. The second layer is where GAIA will encrypt important data transmitted between the TV and IoT service servers, which will also feature an anti-malware system.

Last but not least, Samsung will divide Tizen OS into two parts between the main and security space. According to Hyun Suk Kim, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, “Protecting consumers’ personal information is of the utmost importance to Samsung, both in terms of the company’s values and what’s needed for the continued growth and success of the IoT ecosystem. GAIA is a security solution that will give Samsung customers security and peace of mind now and in the future.”
