Report: Samsung Tops Smartphone Vendor Ranking In Q3 2015
It looks like Samsung of South Korea has topped the world rankings when it comes to the smartphone vendor category in Q3 2015, with rival Apple trailing it in second place. This particular bit of information hails from one of the latest reports from research firm Digitimes Research. Samsung’s smartphone vendor market share stood at 25.6%, whereas Apple was in second place in Q3 2015 at 14.5%. Of course, this is understandable simply because Samsung rolls out all sorts of handsets – from the entry level to the mid-range and of course, with a fair number of flagship models as well, you can be sure they have a far larger market share, and this would in turn make Apple’s iPhone sales all the more impressive since we do know that there is no such thing as a cheap current generation unlocked iPhone.
As for the rest of the top 5 smartphone vendors in the world, they are Huawei at 7.4%, with Lenovo in fourth at 4.8% while LG is breathing down Lenovo’s neck at 4.5% market share. China’s Xiaomi happens to reside in 6th spot with 3.8% market share, whereas Sony and Microsoft stand at a distance away with 2% and 1.7% share, respectively. The previous quarter saw 331.9 million smartphones shipped worldwide, and one can see this as a year-on-year increase of 7.7%.
