With Star Wars: The Force Awakens about to be released this week worldwide, you can be sure that there will be many people scrambling to catch the movie, but in the meantime, you might as well keep yourself satisfied with this flying R2-D2 droid – which is actually a drone, of course. R2-D2 did show its ability to fly from time to time in the movies, so it is no surprise that it has received a drone inspiration this time around, as it took to the ‘skies’ in LA over at a drone expo.
In order to up the realism ante, this R2-D2 droid drone comes complete with a moving head, jetpack lights and a speaker box for its whistles, which would definitely be able to fool someone from far away as being the real deal. Of course, you will not be able to pick up this custom-made droid drone from the shelves, as it happens to be the creation of aerial cinematographer Donny Melara and LA-based aerial photography firm Air Cam Shots. Something this special is deserving of a nickname, and hence it is affectionately referred to as ‘Arturo’.
What are some of the other sci-fi characters that you would like to see turned into a drone?
