Production Version Of Porsche Mission E Electric Concept Approved

A couple of months back Porsche showed off a concept all electric four-seater sedan concept as it reiterated its commitment to be a major player in the electric car market. The Group also unveiled the Audi e-tron quattro at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September this year. Porsche has now approved a production version of its all electric Mission E concept, this move paves the way for this car to actually hit the road later this decade.

The Mission E is unlike any car Porsche has come up with before, “long-distance driving” is promised with a 311 mile range and so is a charging time faster than that of a Tesla.

Mission E will tout 600bhp and will be able to do 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds, giving drivers a top speed of just over 150mph. Porsche promises all of this from the Mission E that’s going to drive in a “sporty” manner and will run 311 miles on a single charge.

Also included onboard is the company’s 800-volt “Turbo Charging” system which can charge up the Mission E to about 80 percent in just 15 minutes of being plugged in, at this rate it’s even faster than Tesla’s Superchargers.

In a statement provided to the media Porsche Chairman Dr. Wolfgang Porsche said that with the Mission E they’re making a clear statement about the future of the brand. “Even in a greatly changing motoring world, Porsche will maintain its front-row position with this fascinating sports car.”

Even though the production version has now been approved it will take a significant amount of time for the Mission E to be deemed ready for public release, for now it’s believed that the car may not come out before 2020.
