While many might associate buying a discrete GPU with gaming, the truth of the matter is that getting a discrete GPU will help with other tasks besides gaming, like with video editing, photo editing, or simply being able to enjoy high-quality videos without having to tax your computer system too much.
Now if you’re in the market for a low-end/affordable GPU, there is a rumor going around suggesting that early 2016, NVIDIA could be planning on releasing a low-end GeForce GT 930 GPU. Interestingly enough, it seems that NVIDIA could also be releasing more than one variant of the GT 930. To be more specific, the rumors claim that there could be three variants based on different architectures.
Right now the latest architecture for NVIDIA’s GPU is Maxwell, so that will be one of the variants. The rumor claims that there will be two others in the form of Kepler, which was last-generation, and Fermi which will be the oldest of the bunch. This also means that it is possible that the Fermi variant won’t be as powerful/efficient, but it could also be the cheapest.
Other rumored specs include up to 4GB of DDR3 VRAM for the Maxwell and Kepler models, and 2GB of DDR3 for the Fermi. Both the Maxwell and Kepler will also feature 384 CUDA cores versus the Fermi with 96 CUDA cores. As for pricing, it has been suggested that the Maxwell model will be priced at $90, the Kepler at $80-85, and the Fermi at $60.
Of course this will also largely depend on the manufacturers who might create more variants like overclocked models, or models with better cooling systems, and so on. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will learn the details soon.
