According to Microsoft’s description of the Xbox app, “Whether you’re new to Xbox or a hardcore gamer, the Xbox app is the place to play games, meet up with friends, make new ones, and rack up achievements.” The app is available on a number of platforms including Windows, Windows Phone, Android, and even iOS.
This means that as far as platforms that don’t have the app are concerned, it would basically be Apple’s Mac platform and Linux. While Linux is a story for another day, Mac users who are hoping that Microsoft will release an Xbox app for their platform, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath.
According to a tweet by Microsoft’s Xbox boss Phil Spencer, it seems that there isn’t enough demand for the Xbox app on the Mac, which is why they have not developed one yet. The good news is that Spencer seemed to be open to the idea and have asked Mac users to post their comments on the Xbox feedback page.
This is not a guarantee that they will make an Xbox app for the Mac, but rather if there is enough interest for it, Microsoft could consider it. However like we said, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath for it anytime soon, but in the meantime you can do your part by telling Microsoft what you want.
