Nintendo can be said to be a household name where video games are concerned, having rolled out their fair share of hardware as well as software hits, so to speak. Well, now that the Wii U should be on its last legs, what does the House of Mario have in store for the masses in terms of a dedicated home console? It does look as though the latest gaming platform from Nintendo will be known as the Nintendo NX, and word on the street has it that it could be shown off behind closed doors at CES 2016 which is happening in Las Vegas next week.
Not to be confused with the handheld portable console known as the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo NX was announced in a message to shareholders and investors by Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. Concerning the future console, Mr. Kimishima said, “For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform code-named ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo.”
Whispers on the street claim that the Nintendo NX will be equal to the Xbox One where raw power is concerned, and if that were to be the case, it should not come across as a surprise since Nintendo has been focusing on the gaming experience rather than a hardware arms race for the better part of the past few years now. We simply cannot wait to see how the Nintendo NX will shape up.
