According to the patent (as discovered by NeoGAF), it shows a device held in the hands of the gamer that is shaped like an oval. From what we can tell of the diagram, it seems that the entire device seems to have a touchscreen display, or at least for the majority of its surface.
The patent’s abstract summary reads, “A non-limiting example information processing apparatus comprises a housing, and a first portion of the housing is formed in an elliptical form when viewing from the front. A display panel and a touch panel constitute one main surface of the first portion. Holes are formed in left and right end portions of the display panel and the touch panel, and two operation sticks are provided through the two holes. When viewing the first portion from the front, an area except key tops of the operation sticks becomes a display area.”
It is rather wordy but it basically describes what you see in the diagram above. Like we said, not much is known about the Nintendo NX console right now so for all we know, this patent could simply be an idea Nintendo had and might have nothing to do with the Nintendo NX console. However if it were related, it would be an interesting approach although we have to wonder how it might play, especially with the lack of any physical buttons or tactile feedback, but what say you?
