Honda saw a considerable amount of success with its S2000 roadster, it ceased production of this car in 2009, but the S2000 still remains a sought after vehicle in the used car market with buyers opting for it because of its sporty style and great performance for a car of its kind. Rumor has it that a new Honda S2000 is being developed, and that the one that’s released in the United States could carry the Acura badge to compete against other small roadsters like the Audi TT.
The new S2000 is said to be powered by 1.5 liter and 2.0 liter turbocharge power units in the front driving the rear wheels, it’s claimed that the base model with the 1.5 liter engine will produce about 180bhp, around 60bhp less than what its predecessor used to make.
Customers looking for superior performance might be able to purchase a Type R variant that will be powered by a 2.0 liter 306bhp power plant, a six speed manual transmission is said to be on the card for both models.
So far there has been no confirmation from Honda that it’s going to put out a new S2000, though it has been rumored for quite some time now that the company wants to have another car in its lineup that will provide customers with a sporty option for a lower price if they don’t want to shell out the big bucks for the 2017 NSX.
