A couple of years ago, we did see that the BMW i8 made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show – but that seems to be such a long, long time ago. It looks like there is another model from BMW that will set pulses racing, and this arrives in the form of the new BMW i8 Spyder concept. Touted to carry the possibility of rolling out as a standalone supercar in order to celebrate 100 years of BMW next year, the BMW i8 Spyder, if realized, is definitely poetry in motion.
BMW did preview such a car in the form of the i8 Spyder concept three years back, but it seems that there are whispers from Germany that a production version is due not too long down the road, although chances are another concept version would be spotted before the real deal is revealed. Auto Express claims that CES 2016 will see the new i8 Spyder concept be revealed, and this is not surprising at all as automobile manufacturers have used such a showcase event before in the past to woo potential buyers and motorheads.
Apart from that, the BMW i8 Spyder might actually be a preview for several changes that are being worked on for an upcoming mid-cycle update of the existing i8, where among them would most probably be subtle visual tweaks in addition to having more power underneath the hood, and of course, range.
