The holidays are a great time to forgive and forget, to leave behind past grudges and bury the hatchet, at least for the time being. That’s precisely what Microsoft is doing in its latest ad for the holidays. Both Microsoft and Apple have mocked each other’s products in ads and commercials many, many times but the latest ad from Microsoft has the company’s employees serenading those working for Apple in the interest of “peace on earth.”
In this campaign Microsoft decides to “deliver a special message to some old friends” through employees sent from its Manhattan store who walked over the short distance to a nearby Apple Store to serenade the employees there.
There’s nothing sinister about the “special message,” it’s just Microsoft employees holding candles and singing Christmas tunes as their counterparts at Apple happily applaud and then it’s hugs all around. The feel is strong in this video.
Microsoft selected 37 employees for this gesture, they were chosen from Microsoft retail stores all across the United States. Singing auditions were held and the group was also joined by the Harlem Youth Choir for a rendition of Let There Be Peace On Earth by Jill Jackson Miller.
It’s unlikely that both Apple and Microsoft will stop taking swipes at each other’s products in the future, but for now, this is what we can truly be content with.
