Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S7 at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in February, it’s highly unlikely that the company will unveil anything about its next flagship before then, which is why the rumor mill has all sorts of theories about what to expect from the Galaxy S7. The latest rumor suggests that the Galaxy S7 is going to be a bit more expensive than its predecessor but it’s going to make up for that price hike with an iris scanner.
Rumor has it that the entire Galaxy S7 lineup is going to feature an iris scanner, previous reports have suggested that there might be as many as four models in the lineup, including the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S7 Edge Plus and Galaxy S7 Plus.
It can’t be said how much the price will be raised since pricing of handsets varies depending upon the market, but it’s claimed that the price is only being increased due to the iris scanner which has never before been offered on a Galaxy S series handset.
The iris scanner will pretty much do what the fingerprint scanner does on the Galaxy S6, provide access control, but users will only need to glance at their device once to unlock it instead of having to place their finger on the home button.
Since this rumor comes from an unofficial source it should be taken with a grain of salt for now, there have been rumors in the past of Samsung devices coming with iris scanner, and we have yet to see one. Perhaps the Galaxy S7 might be that device but we’ll only find out for sure come MWC 2016.
