If the rumors are to be believed, it has been suggested that the next iPhone could see Apple remove the headphone port. This will no doubt help slim the phone down a bit, and it will also tie in nicely with the rumors that Apple is working on high-res audio formats that will be supported by headphones that connect via the Lightning port.
Whether or not those rumors are true remains to be seen, but thanks to artists Eric Huismann, he has created an iPhone 7 concept that basically imagines the device minus the headphone jack, and the results are pretty drastic. As you can see in the rendering above, the end result is a phone that is noticeably thinner than the current iPhones.
What Huismann has done is not only remove the headphone port, but he has seemingly changed the home button to a flat button that uses 3D Touch to simulate the original button’s functionality. The rendering also seems to suggest a new pair of headphones called AirPods, which based on the lack of a connector will probably pair with the phone via Bluetooth.
Apple has always been on a quest to make their devices as thin as possible and in the past, we’ve seen them explore ideas like slimming down the current headphone jack, so this doesn’t really come as that big of a surprise, but what do you guys think of the concept? Is this an iPhone you would be interested in?
