The iPad Pro is Apple’s latest, largest, and most powerful tablet to date, but at the same time it seems that it isn’t selling as well as it should. According to a report from DigiTimes (via Cult of Mac), it has been suggested that the tablet’s sales are off to a slow start and that over in China, Apple has only managed to move 49,000 units in its first month of availability.
Granted iPad sales aren’t quite the same as the iPhone, but 49,000 is a pretty small number for Apple. DigiTimes went on to compare the iPad Pro to other iPads, like the iPad Air 2 which saw 557,000 units shipped in the first month, and the iPad mini 4 which shipped 92,000 units also in the first month.
Now we know that they are comparing units sold to units shipped, two very different metrics. For all we know the number of iPad Pros shipped is actually low and that selling 49,000 units is actually considered a success for the Cupertino company. It also seems to lineup with an earlier report that suggested that Apple would be conservative in their orders.
That being said, the iPad Pro is not cheap and for its price, one could easily pick up a brand new laptop or a competing product like the Surface Pro 4. Not to mention its accessories like the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard are pricey as well, which could limit the number of customers. However not everyone is so negative about the iPad Pro as some analysts have predicted that Apple could sell a total of 3 million units within the first three months, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see if their predictions come true.
