HTC Vive Sees “Very Big” Breakthrough, Demo At CES 2016

The HTC Vive had initially been thought to launch by the end of this year, but after numerous delays we finally got a date to look forward to which is April 2016 where it would be available to the masses. Now HTC did state that there will be developer units available at the start of 2016, and for those wondering why there was a delay, we have some updates.

According to a report from Engadget, it seems that HTC had managed to hit some very big technology breakthroughs with the headset. This was revealed by HTC’s CEO Cher Wang where the breakthrough was so big that they decided to skip the version that was in development in favor of the newer version, hence the delay.

Wang says, “We shouldn’t make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date.” Unfortunately pricing of the headset still remains a mystery and the closest thing Engadget could get to an answer was Wang saying that 80% of HTC’s engineers raised their hands in agreement when presented with one of the price options.

Based on Glassdoor information, HTC engineers make about NT$51,500 (about US$1,560) to NT$57,077 (about US$1,730) a month, so we guess it wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, hopefully. In any case this huge breakthrough is expected to be demoed at CES 2016, so do check back with us then for more info!
