In fact Sony has several of these cameras like their RX100 series of compact cameras, and let’s not forget their Sony RX1 series which is a compact camera packing a full-frame sensor. Other companies such as Fujifilm have similar devices like the Fujifilm X100T, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Nikon might want in on the fun as well.
According to a report from Nikon Rumors, they have heard that Nikon could be working on a high-end compact camera that could debut in early 2016, possibly alongside the Nikon D5 whose photos have been leaking rather frequently in the past week or so. This alleged camera is said to sport a large sensor, at least for its size and chances are we could be looking at a 1-inch (similar to the Sony RX100 series) or it might even go to APS-C.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of such devices? Would you rather a mirrorless where you could change lenses, or would you much prefer a compact with a fixed lens but yet produce high quality images?
