Foxconn Lowers Overtime Due To Drop In iPhone Holiday Sales
If there is one particular place in China which has received its fair share of information over the years concerning the working conditions there – with news of confirmed suicides and having to toil on in silence, then Foxconn would be it. Another report was published earlier this week that claimed how Foxconn has reduced the amount of assigned overtime to its assembly line workers, where this move was allegedly made after taking into consideration the less-than-expected Christmas holiday demand. Stifel Nicolaus analyst Aaron Rakers claims that that exports from iPhone manufacturing plants in China dropped last month, despite seeing a rise in September and October.
This is quite a bummer considering the amount of Yuletide cheer which should be prevalent during such a season of giving. I suppose the law of the jungle applies here, as it is the survival of the fittest, while Foxconn themselves have to answer to their investors, but surely there is no company on earth which is capable of achieving profits year on year without seeing a dip from time to time? It is the cyclical nature of business that we are looking at here, and surely a little bit goes a long way during such moments.
