When it comes to wearables, there are so many companies in the market today. However it seems that despite having huge resources at their disposal, a huge R&D department, a huge marketing budget, it looks like Apple has taken a backseat to the likes of Fitbit in terms of being the world’s largest wearable vendor.
Yup, you read that right, it turns out that Fitbit is continuing to maintain their lead as the world’s largest wearable vendor. According to the figures provided by IDC (via GSMArena), Fitbit commands 22.2% of the wearables market share which is very impressive. However prior to this last year, Fitbit actually commanded 32.8% of the market.
What’s with the huge drop? Basically this is thanks to Apple entering the scene and stealing 18.6% which is also just as impressive given that Apple has been on the scene a lot shorter. Coming in third place is Xiaomi who is closely trailing Apple with a market share of 17.4%, a huge leap from the previous year where they only commanded 5.7% of the market.
Other brands that have made their way into the IDC’s top 5 wearable vendors includes Garmin in fourth place with a 4.1% market share, and BBK with a 3.1% market share. Unfortunately it looks like other vendors such as Samsung, Huawei, ASUS, or Jawbone did not make the cut.
