This is according to a report from Bloomberg (via 9to5Mac) which seems to suggest that Apple has a secret production lab in Taiwan where they are working on said technology. The report claims that Apple has at least 50 engineers and other employees working on display technology for the iPhone and iPad, with the end goal being displays that are thinner, lighter, and brighter than what is being offered in the market today.
That being said, there have been rumors that Apple is planning on making the shift from LCD screens to OLED screens, and it has been speculated that these are the displays Apple is reportedly working on. However other reports claim that Samsung will be the one to provide Apple with said OLED screens so we’re not sure what to make of these conflicting reports.
However like we said, Apple prefers controlling the end-to-end production of its products so the idea of Apple eventually creating their own display technology isn’t that much of a stretch. In fact just recently we heard rumors that Apple could be planning its own mobile GPU, but until we hear otherwise take it with a grain of salt for now.
