While some may or may not notice the difference after conversion, audiophiles might be interested to learn that Apple could be developing more high-resolution audio formats. This is according to a report from Mac Otakara (via MacRumors) who spoke to industry sources at the Portable Audio Festival in Tokyo.
According to their report, “According to several insiders familiar with Apple, whose products are exhibited at PORTABLE AUDIO FESTIVAL 2015, the company has been developing Hi-Res Audio streaming up to 96kHz/24bit in 2016.” This isn’t the first time that Apple has been rumored to be exploring a higher-res audio format. In the past there have been several such reports of Apple exploring the idea.
Given Apple’s tendency to prefer its own proprietary technology, we suppose it doesn’t come as a surprise. When such audio formats will debut remains to be seen, but it should be worth looking forward to all the same, especially if you’re someone who cares about the quality of their music beyond the MP3 format.
