Another U.S. Death Connected To Takata Airbag Rupture

Takata is not having a very good year in 2015, that is for sure, as they have been implicated in the 9th death worldwide (happened in the US this time around) that is linked to an airbag rupture. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 8th death happen to be connected to a faulty Takata airbag inflator, which makes marking the first reported death since April, as well as the 9th when one takes the whole world into consideration.

It has also been mentioned that a former U.S. Justice Department official has been called upon in order to deal with the massive recalls of airbags, in addition to ensuring that the Japanese parts firm’s will comply with a reasonable settlement.

NHTSA spokesman Gordon Trowbridge mentioned that the latest death happened in July, where a recalled used 2001 Honda Accord coupe was involved in the incident which was located close to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the incident, the unidentified teen-aged driver was hospitalized after a Takata airbag ruptured, where the teen then died not too long after that. It seems that the 13-year-old boy managed to get keys to the car without his parent’s permission, getting involved in a fender bender that ultimately resulted in a loss of life when the airbag ruptured upon impact.
