Given that we already have Android M which is Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we can only assume that the next Android build will be Android N, but more importantly what kind of features might we be able to expect from the next major build of Android? We suppose anything’s possible right now, but a recent Reddit AMA with the Pixel C team has revealed one potential feature.
The Google Pixel C tablet had recently gone on sale and the team did an AMA to celebrate it. One of the questions asked was about a potential split screen UI for Android, in which one of the team members replied by saying, “We’re working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday. But we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!”
Of course whether or not this makes it in time for Android N (which presumably is due for release in 2016) is a different story. However split screen UIs aren’t exactly new to Android as this is a feature that Samsung has been touting in its Galaxy Note series for a while now, so we suppose it’s not really a stretch to think that Google might eventually “borrow” the idea to use in stock Android.
No doubt this would be a welcome feature given how big our phone screens are these days, but what say you? Does native split screen functionality sound like something you might be interested in?
