I am quite sure that while many of us have already watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and will make an attempt to watch it at least one more time down the road, you can be assured that many people are well familiar with the massive Star Destroyer. After all, it happens to be one of the largest ships in the Star Wars universe – the Death Star and Starkiller do not qualify as ships, and it is nice to see a fan recreate this flagship carrier in great detail via 3D printing – a form of art that is fast catching on.
The final result is a two-foot long 3D-printed ship that comprises of not hundreds, but thousands of tiny parts. Needless to say, it is not a job for the faint hearted to take on, and 3D printing has also done its fair bit for other serious stuff such as serving up a new heart.
The person behind this Star Destroyer made use of a PowerSpec 3D Pro printer as well as three rolls of filament, where the individual pieces were printed before being hot glued into one massive structure. It is not based on the actual Star Destroyer from Star Wars canon due to copyright infringement issues, but it is certainly an effort worth applauding.
