25% Of Smartphones In 2016 To Sport Pressure-Sensitive Screens

iphone_3d_touchWith the launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it would seem that Apple is trying to usher in an era where smartphones sport pressure-sensitive displays, thus introducing a new way for us to interact with our mobile devices. Recently a report from IHS has suggested that come 2016, as many as 25% of new smartphones will sport similar features.

Does this come as a surprise? Hardly. As it stands Huawei already has such a phone in the market, although it is currently rather underhyped at least compared to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Synaptics has also announced similar technology that they want to bring to smartphones and we wouldn’t be surprised if OEMs were to adopt those features.

There has been talk about how the Sony Xperia Z6, the Samsung Galaxy S7, and future Xiaomi phones will all come with pressure-sensitive displays, so IHS’ predictions that a quarter of smartphones in 2016 sporting similar technologies shouldn’t be surprising. Of course safe for Huawei, no one else has confirmed that they will be adopting the technology as it is only rumors for now.

Despite 3D Touch being heavily marketed, it seems that initial impressions of the feature have revealed that while it does have a lot of potential, it isn’t necessarily a must-have feature yet, but what say you? Is pressure-sensitive screens a must for your next smartphone purchase?
