2016 Volvo XC90 Sports Apple’s CarPlay

Volvo is well known for being one of the safest cars around, and this time around, it seems that the technological aspect of the new 2016 Volvo X90 will up the ante – as this model happens to be the company’s very first vehicle that will sport Apple CarPlay – assuming owners would want it to be part of the deal, of course. CarPlay is an iOS-based connected car software that will be linked to your iPhone, and it is interesting to note that CarPlay will not take over the whole touchscreen display in the Volvo XC90.

This is definitely a positive thing for drivers as it would translate to the fact that drivers need not perform the switch from CarPlay over to Sensus Connect in order to perform functions such as making adjustments to the vehicle’s air conditioning system. Volvo’s new Sensus Connect platform works this way though – via a four-tile system.

Individual tiles on the touchscreen will be able to handle a different operation, ranging from in-car navigation to the smartphone, handling media, and if required, CarPlay as well. If you were to touch the tile, then the operation would be expanded, although it will not “hijack” the entire screen, so to speak.
