What normally comes after a particular smartphone model is relatively successful? Why, a sequel would be more than welcome, of course! Having said that, how the Xiaomi Mi 4 flagship has obviously done well enough to warrant an update in the usual one year cycle, although the Xiaomi Mi 4i and Mi 4c were released not too long ago, those were not proper heirs to the flagship throne over at Xiaomi. The Xiaomi Mi 5 would be a logical choice, but it seems that it will appear as the Xiaomi Gemini as pointed out in a revealed Geekbench listing.
The benchmark entry depicts the Xiaomi Gemini to carry a MSM8996 chipset, which is actually the Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm. Needless to say, it does very well in the single-core test, picking up a score of 2,140, which is still not enough to beat the current king of the hill, which is the Apple A9 chip that has a 2,500 ballpark figure.
However, it does not fare too well in the multi-core section, as the Xiaomi Gemini fares worse than the Galaxy S6 generation, as the latter all go beyond the 5,000 mark. Regardless, it does look as though the future Xiaomi flagship device will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 underneath the hood.
