This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that according to data from W3Techs, it has been revealed that WordPress actually powers a whopping 25% of the web. According to W3Techs, “WordPress is used by 58.7% of all the websites whose content management system we know. This is 25.0% of all websites.”
Their data has also shown how much the platform has grown over the years, rising from 13.1% back in 2011 to 15.8% the following year, and increasing every year until today in which the numbers are reporting 25%. The second most popular CMS comes in the form of Joomla, but even then they are a very, very distant second.
That being said, there are a ton of websites out there who rely on custom-made CMS. This is because they have certain needs that WordPress might not offer, so that’s worth taking into consideration as well. So if you are thinking about launching a blog or website and want a CMS (that’s also free), it seems like the majority feel like WordPress is the way to go.
