Now the good news is that if you do own the Xiaomi Mi 4, it looks like the ROM could be ready in time for Thanksgiving. This is according to a Microsoft Operating System Software Engineer who posted on Weibo, “Thanksgiving Day is around the corner, so is the public release of Windows 10 for Mi 4.”
Granted Xiaomi’s phones are pretty much limited to Asia, but the implications of this ROM is huge. After all right now the only way one can go about using Windows 10 Mobile is by purchasing a Lumia device (for the most part). However if this ROM is successful, it also means that users will be able to swap out their Android operating system for Windows 10, thus giving them the freedom of choice.
Of course there’s a lot more to just swapping out the software since the hardware needs to be compatible as well, but no doubt this is an interesting strategy that Microsoft is employing and we have to wonder if it will work out for them.
