Windows 10 Market Share Is At 7.94% In October

Windows 10 is Microsoft’s latest and greatest (based on reviews) operating system, and the best part is that it is currently a free upgrade for users who own a genuine copy of older versions of Windows. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that the operating system is gaining market share at a pretty steady and rapid page.

According to the latest figures shared by Net Applications, it has been revealed that Windows 10 currently commands about 7.94% of the market as far as Windows-based operating systems are concerned. Just last month the figures showed that at 5% of the market, Windows 10 has already eclipsed Windows 8, and with a market share of 7.94% in October, Windows 10 is closing in on Windows XP, which commands a respectable 11.68% despite it being older and no longer supported by Microsoft.

Like we said, this does not come as a surprise when you consider that Windows 10 is a free upgrade for users. Prior to this, upgrades to newer versions of Windows had to be bought, meaning that users who are running an older build might not see the need to pay for a newer version. Since this is free and with users being able to rollback to the older build within a month, it is not surprising that more people are willing to give Windows 10 a go.

In the meantime Microsoft has plans on being more aggressive in getting users to adopt Windows 10, with the company planning on changing the update’s status from Optional to Recommended in 2016.
