VTech has certainly made a name for itself over the years, particular in technologically advanced childrens’ toys such as the Kidizoom Watch, among numerous others. However, it does look as though security is not all that strong as they are supposed to be in recent times, and we have received word that a data breach has affected VTech over in Hong Kong. This happens to be a problem that while small, is on the rise.
Apparently, the hacked data at VTech comprised of information concerning customers who download children’s games, books and other educational content, at least according to the Hong Kong-based toy manufacturer. This particular data breach also carried with it information that are related to children.
With more and more devices arriving in the midst of the IoT (Internet of Things) ‘storm’, these happen to be hooked up to the Internet most of the time, and companies take this shift to collect personal information of their customers, which could help them in shaping their future products and marketing strategies – hence, this is valuable information which invites an increasing level of attacks down the road. Just because a small company is targeted, this does not mean that the implications are not serious – far from it.
