Is it any wonder that smart devices in this day and age have the capability to be able to “spy” on you? It looks like the Vizio Smart TV is one of those devices, where it tracks the way you watch your TV and – horror of horrors, will share out that particular data with third parties. This data collecting feature has been turned on by default right out of the box – no surprises there, and the TV will also associate the collected data with your IP address that will eventually be shared with advertisers.
Known as “Smart Interactivity”, over 10 million Vizio devices have this enabled, and Vizio stated, “Non-personal identifiable information may be shared with select partners … to permit these companies to make, for example, better-informed decisions regarding content production, programming and advertising.”
Vizio has already updated its privacy policy, and if you happen to be an owner of a Vizio Smart TV who would like to get rid of this seemingly intrusive behavior, then you can check out this link to figure out how for yourself. At the end of the day, having targeted advertisements might be easier on the eyes, but I would say that many of us are already an-insensitive.
