Verizon today introduced updated phone plans aimed at people who travel a lot and would like to use the same number when they’re abroad, they are much better than Big Red’s old ones, Verizon subscribers will be allowed to access their current text, data and phone allowance even when they’re outside the United States. Called TravelPass, it will be deduct minutes, text and data from existing domestic allowance enabling subscribers to travel without having to worry about roaming or hidden fees.
Those who are traveling to Mexico or Canada only have to pay $2 per day to access their existing allowance, they will essentially be able to use their phone as they would back home, as long as they’re paying $2 every day they’re in any of the two countries.
Verizon will provide the same kind of access in other regions as well, such as Australia and some countries in Europe, however it will charge $10 per day for the same access. If subscribers go over their data allotment for the month they will pay $10 per 100MB used.
The daily fee for TravelPass is only charged on the day its used in supported countries, it will be activated automatically when the subscriber makes or receives a call, sends a text within one of the 65+ supported countries to consumes cellular data. TravelPass can be signed up for via MyVerizon.com or through the MyVerizon app on a smartphone, the option resides in the “manage international services” menu.
