Mozilla has created an operating system that’s primarily aimed at low-end devices and chances are you can’t walk into a local carrier store and pick up a handset powered by Firefox OS. If you’ve been curious about the operating system and would like to take it for a spin, the good news is that you can now do it from the comfort of your Android handset. Mozilla is now allowing anyone with an Android device to try Firefox OS via an app.
Since it’s not a ROM there’s no need to wipe the device before trying out Firefox, and at no point during the installation process is your data at risk. You install the app just as you would any other app.
It does however transform your phone into a Firefox OS device with just one tap, allowing you to experience what Mozilla’s mobile operating system looks like, since it’s an app after all it does employ some workarounds to present this experience and when you feel you have had enough, just exit the app.
Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview is now available for Android, you’ll have to download the .apk file from Mozilla and then sideload it on your Android device, a process that doesn’t take more than a few seconds. It’s really that easy.
