So the other day it was discovered and confirmed by Sony that PS2 backwards compatibility would be arriving on the PlayStation 4. Details of how this will work remain scarce, but so far it seems that they are testing some kind of emulation technology and details of how it will work are expected to be revealed later.
That being said, it seems that in the meantime Sony has started to poll users on what kind of PS2 games they would like to see have backwards compatibility on the PS4. This was tweeted by Sony XDev Europe who asked, “So what ps2 games would you like to see on your ps4?” It was also followed by another tweet by PlayStation UK who wrote, “Which games would you love to play again? SSX Tricky and Timesplitters 2 get our vote in the office #20YearsOfPlay”
Like we said, it is unclear as to how this will work. The folks at WIRED had previously asked Sony about whether this means they can insert PS2 discs into the console, or if they would have to download digital copies of the game via the PlayStation Store, but Sony had declined to comment.
This is an interesting development as previously Sony had denied that the PS4 would be getting backwards compatibility with the PS3, which we guess technically still holds true. No word on when the feature will be officially detailed and rolled out, but in the meantime what PS2 games would you love to be able to play on your PS4 again?
