Dubbed the FES Watch, the device made by a Sony subsidiary Fashion Entertainments, so we guess technically it isn’t 100% Sony per se. Now the good news is that if you wanted to get your hands on the device, the smartwatch is expected to go on sale later this month. However there is a catch and that is it will only see a limited release, and that release will be further limited to Japanese stores.
This means that the rest of us around the world can only look on in envy. The watch will go on sale in the MoMA Design Store on Omotesando and Isetan in Shinjuku. We’re not sure if Sony will ever decide to expand the offerings of the Wena Wrist, but presumably a lot of it will have to do with how well-received the device is.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the FES Watch was actually launched last year before it was brought onto Sony’s own crowdfunding platform. It’s not exactly a smartwatch, at least not in the strictest sense. It features e-paper technology with the watch being made entirely out of it. This means that it can change its appearance on a whim. It is also relatively low-power with Sony boasting that it can last about 60 days on a single button battery. The FES Watch will be priced at around $242.
