They say that good things come to those who wait, so it is nice to see that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC’s specifications have been revealed, which more or less means that the actual shipping of the Snapdragon 820 chipset in mobile devices would be happening soon – real soon, never mind the fact that Qualcomm has already mentioned that this shipping will not happen until 2016 comes around.
With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, it would also mean that Qualcomm has made the return to custom-designed CPU cores, which is an effort that was exhibited in the past, although that particular streak took a break with the Snapdragon 810 that relied on ARM designs instead.
As for the Snapdragon 820, you should be able to find a quad-core CPU complete with 64-bit Kryo cores that are able to hit a clock speed of 2.2GHz. The CPU itself is touted to feature double the performance of what the Snapdragon 810 is capable of, which theoretically speaking, is extremely impressive. There is also the new Hexagon 680 DSP, an Adreno 530 GPU, a X12 LTE modem, support for 2×2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac connections, and the ability to support 4K displays as well. Chances are one should be able to see this particular SoC in action across most Android flagship devices next year.
