Apple has released the new Apple TV, it’s the first set-top box from the company that comes with its own App Store, third-party developers have already started working on some new applications many of which will soon be available for download on the new Apple TV. Plex had previously confirmed that it was making a proper app for the new set-top box and that app has now been released.
Many Apple TV owners have been anxiously waiting for an official Plex app ever since the set-top box was launched back in 2007. Plex has long been available on iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad but the company decided not to make one for the Apple TV until Apple properly opened up its TV platform to developers and made a separate App Store for it.
That’s precisely what Cupertino has done with the new Apple TV so the official Plex app is finally here. It’s now available as a free download from everyone through the App Store. It comes with all of the bells and whistles that Plex users know and love packaged in an app that feels just at home with the new user interface of the fourth-generation Apple TV.
The company says that this is one of the richest apps that it has built feature-wise, it basically transforms the output from a Plex Media Sever directly into the colorful and vibrant screens that users will see on the set-top box.
