Paper is perhaps the most important tool that billions of us use every single day. Countless great ideas have started out as lines on a piece of paper, same goes for historical speeches and agreements that have had tremendous impact on our world. Whether you’re designing a car or a house chances are you’ll first start off sketching on paper and that’s the very concept Nissan has tapped to pay tribute to its rather funky car known as the Juke on its fifth birthday.
As you can probably imagine making a replica of an entire car out of origami is not as easy as it sounds. For someone who doesn’t have the skill making anything out of origami is a real challenge, let alone make a replica of a car that pushes the limits of design.
Nissan got help from a pro for this purpose. It brought in Owen Gildersleeve, an origami artist, to make this life-size replica and he has most certainly done a great job as the photos and video show.
The company commissioned Gildersleeve for this project in time for the Juke’s fifth birthday and you have to agree that the result looks quite cool. Gildersleeve spent some 200 hours on this project, using more than 2,000 pieces of paper to create a life-size replica of the Nissan Juke.
