However with several octa-core chipsets already in the market today, doesn’t it feel that Qualcomm could be lagging behind? For those wondering if Qualcomm could make a octa-core Snapdragon 820 chipset, wonder no more because according to a report from DigiTimes, it has been suggested that an octa-core Snapdragon 820 chipset has been planned for 2016.
According to DigiTimes, “Though Qualcomm has already launched its 64-bit Snapdragon 820 series – a quad-core design – the company will still follow the octa-core mobile SoC trend among its competitors by introducing an 8-core version of its 820 series in the first half of 2016, the sources noted.”
That being said, despite it having quad-cores, one should not be so quick to dismiss it. After all there is more to chip design and power than just the number of cores. In fact if you’re curious as to whether or not having more cores is a good/bad thing, check out our article here for the details. Until then take it with a grain of salt for now.
