The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 was one of two Galaxy Tab Pro tablets that was launched early last year. You would think the fact that it’s still under 2 years old that it might be eligible to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop at the very least, but unfortunately that is not the case so if you do want the update, you might have to rely on flashing Android 5.0-based ROMs instead.
This has been confirmed by Samsung UK on Twitter in which they responded to a query from a custom asking about the update. According to the rep, “We really don’t like bringing you news you don’t want to hear, but the TabPRO 8.4 will not be getting Lollipop.” Unfortunately there was no word on whether the larger Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 would get the update, but as far as the 8.4-inch model is concerned, it is a no-go.
That being said, the lack of an update to Lollipop has us wondering if this means it would even be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. According to an alleged leaked roadmap of Android 6.0 updates for Samsung devices, neither the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 or 10.1 was mentioned. The roadmap made mention of several Samsung tablets like the Galaxy Tab S and the Galaxy Tab A-series, so as far as Samsung tablets are concerned, those are the only eligible models for now.
That being said we can always hold onto the possibility that this piece of bad news might only be for UK customers, even if that seems unlikely, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled in case Samsung changes their mind.
