In just a few days the much awaited latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise arrives, the community has long been waiting for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and just a few days before its release developer Treyarch has confirmed that it will release modding tools for this title. However the modding and mapping tools will only be available for PC version of this game.
In its blog post Treyarch says that modding and mapping tools have been one of the top requests from players so the studio is very excited to finally deliver them to the vibrant Call of Duty community. The tools will enable players to make their own modes and maps for Black Ops 3.
Players will have to wait though because the tools won’t be arriving until next year, a closed alpha will begin March 2016 through which select PC gamers will be provided access to the modding and mapping tools. Treyarch hasn’t said how players can sign up to be a part of that closed alpha.
After March 2016 the studio is also going to launch an open beta for these tools so that more players can get their hands on it while Treyarch continues to work out the kinks before deeming the tools fit for public release.
Treyarch has also confirmed today that it will release unranked dedicated server files with the modding tools, enabling players to run their own servers with modified content. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be released on November 6th for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
